OK, so I listened to the latest video from Boris on Agx, and realised that I was doing it all wrong.
This is a picture of Stac Pollaidh, and as you can see the sky is quite flat. I essentially used two modules, Exposure and AgX to produce this. I am very happy that one can get a good image from these two modules, but I am not sure how to improve the sky with them, or whether it is even possible.
Obviously, this was processed using the master branch. While I wouldn’t want to stop people who haven’t got this from having a play, I really would like to see what those using the master can do with it.
I ‘cheated’ here - not being really acquainted with AGX yet - and used two instances of it. One masked for foreground, other for the sky and played around a bit. Used input sharpening and multiple instances of d_or_s. A bit of col.bal.rgb. and finally a vignette. Did not take much time, couple of minutes. But what a place of beauty this is! Might give it a frame a bit later this day as I have to go.
A second version with GIMP - without the artifacts in the sky. The first I converted with Filmulator. I have never noticed this problem previously.
The second one I converted with XnConvert.
I was just focused at the first half of the video dealing with the sky at the beach. He used multiple instance of “tone equalizer”.
I practiced his method on some of my images. Result was amazing.
Sky that did not have any cloud all of sudden had many clouds!
I kept this edit very simple. AgX, tone equalizer and a couple of default instances of local contrast. Plus basic sharpening and denoising. I expect the sky was just dull clouds like I have in my edit rather than dramatic clouds. I have deliberately tried to capture a dull dreary day look. _CTW5373.NEF.xmp (11.2 KB)
