This is my first time to use Siril. I took lights with a tripod only. So far I have used Sequator and stacked images look fine in most cases but wanted to try Siril as it provides a lot of advanced features.
The first attempt disappointed me as the distortion of the stars at the corners was much more severe (it is most severe at the lower right corner) and stars were less crisp than Sequator. So, I wonder if Siril is not good at stacking non-tracked images? Is Siril specifically designed for nicely tracked deep sky objects but not for wide angle images?
Sequator has a feature “Reduce distortion effect” but I can’t find an equivalent in Siril. Maybe I just don’t know the name of the feature in Siril? Any tips are welcome!
Here are the same image of Cygnus around NGC7000 stacked with Sequator and Siril. Sorry that the images do not look nicely processed. I just wanted to ask this before spending more time on Siril.
Exposure total: 12 minutes (8-second subs x 90)
Nikon D7200 with 42 mm (a zoom lens) on a tripod
F4.5, ISO 3200
The first one was from Siril and the second one from Sequator.
