struggling with "modern" white balance in darktable

I was curious about this issue and I did some tests.
To me, the difference between CC and legacy WB when coming to magenta highlights is entirely due to the highlight reconstruction module being activated or not.
If I disable HLR, I get magenta highlights with both methods.
Which makes sense, HLR is meant to fix exactly that problem, but it can only do it if WB is used in legacy mode. If you choose the modern workflow, then WB is set to camera reference, HLR cannot fix the magenta artifacts and you have to deal with those in filmic reconstruction instead.
