@flannelhead Thank you for a great rundown the cause and effect here. It all makes sense. I think one reason I don’t see too much of this with my hack is that I’m really scrutinizing the results for loss of texture and detail, so I kind of see when the “magic marker” color fill effect starts to become too apparent. But you are absolutely right that I’ve pulled out a failsafe for the higher side.
I think the best thing to come out of all of this discussion, here and on other threads, is the awareness about effect. Perhaps as you say there are some ways to provide some relief so that the real world use cases can be accommodated. I think that what we are seeing in everyone’s comments on this and with similar series of photos is that these photo subjects are not really corner cases for photography. These cases are awesome photo-ops that are very popular and arguably even common for photography.
