Sunset in Africa "struggling" with colors

I feel I have betray the true colors of the scene seeking that vibrancy that your mind remembers. I feel sometimes our memories lie to us. I believe this scene would have an orange glow like the top picture here rather than the more neutral colors of the bottom image. DT 5.3 AgX.

I agree.

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the pictures here. I remember it all being brighter, but that distorted the colors, and it looks kind of off. Here are some examples that have beautiful colors and aren’t too dark. It’s great to see it from a different perspective  Thanks.

Quick AgX and Filmic versions…

My try

GIMP.
Lightened the darkest parts and accentuated the colours - probably overdone.

I have no idea if my version is any better than what was shown before but it is a lovely image. My main change is to crop out the man made structures on the left hand side … and thereby putting the tree almost into perfect center.

(Removing human made stuff sounds good, but I would not do it on photographs and I would not start in Africa …)

I tend not to struggle with colors  , so here is a non-color version.

@Haematopus Beautiful photo and sunset. The golden hue can be difficult to replicate in post. Some things can only be simulated at best, unless you spend an inordinate amount of time on it to make it right.

Things to watch would be preventing the halo around the tree, balancing the foreground with the background and considering how the light touches the elephants.

BTW we have placed the thread into Play Raw and added the raw, sidecar and licence.

Speaking of crafting images, I wonder what @s7habo would do with it?

Thank you for moving it. And yes, the settings weren’t the best. Everything was done in a rush. You regret it afterwards and have to struggle with development

Good idea.

Tried to get a cinematic version using RapidRAW:

Of course, I only wanted to get rid of the cropped tree at the border… The fence (inside Etosha) is still visible… Nice development :slightly_smiling_face:

You want it darker brighter ?

I’ve tried to make it brighter and more colourful, without doing away with the sunset feel.
