When a save or export is done, is there no address bar where I can just paste in my working directory location?

I do a lot of modding and editing of mods for games. A process I have used for (10) years no longer works for a new release of a game, the company says the have not changed the way textures are handle. All image files are in the DDS format. I would open them in Paint.net (doesn’t support DDS, no plugin either), save as .png, then open the png with Paintshop Pro, and use its Color Changer Tool, its changes the color and maintains the textures. Then with paint.net I would save it as a DDS and add it back the zipped mod file, this always worked, until now. In-game I end of with a white area with a pinkish hue, and all textures are gone, it just looks like flood/fill was used.
I have never used GIMP, so I thought I would give it a try and do all of the above mentioned edits in GIMP, but I have not found a tool yet like I use in PSP (color changer), that retains all of the textures.
