Why black? 
Just find a white wall (ideally flat) and take a few pics like this:
Where the highlights are clipping and blacks on the top as well. Note that it should be one continuous gradient from pure white to pure black.

Tried to reproduce - the App cannot connect if camera (Sony A7IV) is not turned on. The App and camera are fully updated to their latest versions.
Over USB or BT/Wifi?
It is there. There is this and other features of the camera, eg it can be uploading to cloud when you are not using it.
There are settings… I don’t recall which ones, because I have been more interested in preventing this behaviour than using it!
Edit. Took a quick look at the David Busch bible.
Network Menu tab > Smartphone Connect > Cnct while power OFF

Well, by default this setting is not enabled.
Hmmm… Why did I mention it in the first place? Ahhh… about a camera not being truly “off” when switched off. I forgot!
Maybe our switched-off cameras are more off without this option enabled? Busch says that it keeps Bluetooth running.
Exactly, so I keep this setting OFF since I don’t need it.

I want your opinions, guys.
Basically, I’ve had very complicated dealings with a filter company where I’ve been trying to get the product I want after trying out a square filter system that I didn’t like. I decided to try a set of magnetic filters (CPL, ND8, ND64) instead.
The opinions I want are to do with filter thread size. This is the filter thread breakdown across all my cameras for lenses I either already own or am planning to acquire:

Based on this, I asked for a 72mm set based on the conventional wisdom of getting the largest you need and using step-up rings for the smaller lenses. As 67mm is my most common lens requirement, 72mm is just slightly larger and should work very well.
But the company sent me an 82mm set instead for the same price. Even though I have no plans to get any lens with an 82mm thread size any time soon, I guess it’s not impossible that I might get such a lens one day. 82mm would cover me for almost every lens I could possibly own, but I think it will be too big for my current lens needs.
So, would you stick with 82mm or return it and ask for the 72mm set?
I’d probably just keep the 82 and know that you’ll be covered for pretty much all your needs.
It’ll probably look silly on your oly tho

I forgot to mention that I had to keep the square filter kit because of prohibitive return costs, so my plan was to either sell it (at a loss) or use it for studio work. So the magnetic kit was designed to be for field use. 82mm is less portable, but I guess it’s not a huge difference from 72mm…
Yes, you read that right! I currently own 11 lenses across 3 different systems (not including some vintage glass). I doubt I will own 20 at any one moment because I would probably sell some. The list I provided was more of a forecast of what filter sizes I might need. A more realistic number would probably be about 15 lenses, 5 per camera system.

And I felt like having three lenses is already a lot and I might not utilize a fourth one if I was to get some (like the Viltrox 16mil 1.8)… If you’re gassy, then I’m near vacuum lol.

If you got a fourth lens, then you would be close to what I have per body; the difference being that I own and still use 3 different camera bodies. I might eventually pair this down to 2 bodies, but I enjoy the different experiences I have with each (M43, APS-C and FF), so I’m sticking with all of them for now.
Just got back from a 2 week trip where I took the X-T5, which was my leading candidate for selling. But I kind of fell in love with it again, so now I’m unsure if I will sell it

To be fair, I have no idea what I would use that 16mm lens for. There’s occasionally a scene that’s quite wide, but not enough to justify a lens purchase. I can’t get anything longer, really – the lens would be too big and expensive/single purpose. A standard prime like @paperdigits’ 50 1.8 S would be cool, but idk … I like to zoom like a lunatic sometimes. Other lenses are either too specialized or just not interesting.
