The house on the hill

I had my problems with perspective and exposure. And perspective.

Getting the perspective to something that I was comfortable with was quite a challenge. Here’s what I could do with DT 5

You are right, @Kurt , the perspective is a bear. I tried my best.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do we mean by “perspective” in this context?

The inward lean of the trees at the sides of the image are signs of it. In reality, they are probably nearly vertical.

Oh, that’s quite literal lol. I guess in a shot like this that kind of adjustment doesn’t even cross my mind.

Thank you very much for answering for me.
When I retired last year, the first thing I learnt was to switch off the computer instead of sitting in front of it all day. As a result, it can sometimes take a while before I reply.

cropped to bring out the house rather than a entire hillside of trees. G’MIC perspective adjusted. GIMP inverse de-saturated increased-contrast mask to adjust the darks, esp. the house. Merged down and resized linear mode to 1500px wide. Pretty poor job really … might have another go with another raw converter …

Another GIMP try without masking:

Here is my attempt at the vertical perspective correction. I used the option in DT to manually define a perspective rectangle. I find this a great feature in DT.

I was looking at that, but I couldn’t figure out how to use it. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

PS - Ok, I figured out how to use it to straighten the perspective, but it always chops off the bottom part of the image (for me).

PPS - I finally re-cropped it to get a decent presentation.

My version using darktable and a custom film sim, this time using an all Fujifilm pipeline, with Pro 400h and Crystal Archive.
