The Joys of Photography...

… or the one(s) that got away
Had a bit of a run lately, thought I’d share some recent disappointments
This morning photoing some breaking waves and noticed some movement in river below. By the time I re-aimed the camera an OTTER had gone and hidden himself (her, them, it) under the big rocks bottom right. Hung around for 20mins or so in a freezing gale, but no joy

Walking the dog down the beach, just happened to have camera & tripod in car but by time I pulled everything out and faffed around setting up the COROMORANT AND 4 (count them - 4) OYSTERCATCHERS had flown off

Having lunch and P said to turn around veerrry slooowly. A KESTREL was perched outside the kitchen window. I’ll say that again - a KESTREL was perched outside the kitchen window - a KESTREL!!!
Of course by the time I grabbed the camera, set up and FAFFED… Kes was off chasing his own lunch.

Now this one really galls me. This one I thought about and planned weeks in advance.
From this particular spot the sun rises behind that mountain but twice a year (give or take a few days - think about it). And if conditions are just so a little bit of mist will be backlit and shroud the hill in a neon orange halo…
Wanna see what I got?

I’m off for a lie down and rethink my life…

If you have a few more.of these, they’d be a great series along with the stories f the wait and the miss!

It makes you appreciate the momentary nature of photography even more.

Like the idea - watch this space. But I wouldn’t want folks thinking I couldn’t take a photo…
What about a new catagory? A sort of anti-showcase - escapees and just plain baad…

The Showcase is perfectly fine!

Not a photograph, but I rather think the cat was glad to be an escapee here. This was off a trail camera in the garden of our last house:

this is a brilliant post, sad and funny at the same time, thanks for taking the time to write it!

I feel and share the pain, yesterday I tried to capture some moments during my hike in the woods with my wife and daughter and (new) doggie; there was a beautiful light filtering through the trees, shining patches of light on my family, great autumn colors all around, I made a few shots, then came back home and all I had were shitty, blurry photos… deleted them all and then decided to sell all the camera gear (*)
