The Road to Hell

Entering Death Valley from California. Temperature was 42 at around 5pm and 47 a few kilometers ahead…

RT and GIMP

DT 5.6. I disabled the color calibration module and in the white balance module selected shade to get a warmer tone. In AgX module I cranked up the contrast slider to increase the contrast and saturation of colors.

OK; a photo-edit this time, but did use Resynthesizer and a lot of clone/heal work to add some faux forground details. Also some additional cleanup and tweaks via G’MIC. Bots would do a better job, no doubt, but what fun would that be.

Lots of nice interpretations and renditions! Reading “road to hell”, I went fully into darkish-red mode. Probably to much so:

G and B channels squashed, and from there curve/contrast work and sharpening, mostly.

Not 100% satisfied with this one, tried to make the sunrays(?) pop more, but hit the wall with the clouds/mountains. Anyway, the usual, dakrtable 5.7.0+ with spektrafilm etc.

Being that you used kilometers, can I assume that the temperatures are celcius? Otherwise, Hell froze over…

Yes, Celcius. Note 0 C == 32 F, would be still not freezing using Fahrenheit

Looks like a pretty cool place…
