My son gave me the Tarbox controller which works with Photoshop and Lightroom. They say it works with other brands.
Has anyone used it, with Darktable successful?
Wouldn’t be surprised if it works with Input System NG (keyboard/mouse/midi/gamepad) by dterrahe · Pull Request #8078 · darktable-org/darktable · GitHub but that pull request won’t drop until darktable 3.8.
Not with the current release, unless Taurbox has some driver for it. For darktable 3.8, due around the end of the year, there is a new input system, which may work with this, stay tuned.

I can see TourBox is today not mentioned in the manual’s section on midi device support, but has anybody anyhow been able to use it with darktable?
I don’t think there will ever be the intent in the main manual to catalog all the devices that work/have worked.
If the TourBox can output midi, then there is a good change it’ll work with darktable. the nice thing about midi is that it quite generic, if hardware supports it, then it generally works.
