I’m having trouble trying to make the background full black in dark table. My picture is macro shot of an insect at night taken using a flash and relatively high shutter speed, so naturally the background is black. However, dark table seems to always keep a brighter circle near the center. It doesn’t matter if I lower the exposure, the circle never changes. It can even be seen when I export to jpeg, so the background doesn’t look uniform.
Here is a screenshot where I toggle the clipping indications to highlight where the circle is:
Could you maybe share a raw file in an open license (see PlayRaw category for the rules) so that we could try for ourself and see the problem ?
That said, I don’t know the background behind that spider, but with a flash you’ll always light both the spider and whatever the background is. So, it looks quite natural to have a halo around the center of focus.
The best idea to to share a RAW file with licence so we can help you resolve the problem. Your problem is more likely to do with the fact that ALL lenses are brighter in the centre and darker towards the extreme corners. Using the lens correction module should overcome most of this issue however as it will try and correct the vignetting.
Thanks for answering. I’ll l check the guidelines for uploading raw files.
I just noticed, however, that the circle is the same of the vignette, so I found a way around: I tried using the exposure module instead to get a similar look and now the background is uniform.
I seems that the vignette module was making darker (or brighter?) the already clipped blacks.
The vignette module is display referred, which could explain clipping you do net get when playing with the exposure module (that one comes earlier in the pipeline).
Most of the time, for lights adjustments like that, I prefer to use a second instance of the exposure module with a mask.
