Here’s the raw + the darktable 4.2.1 xmp. I’m not happy with the results. It doesn’t have presence.

As a scene referred, I thought that we “shouldn’t use”:
Somehow, I’ve tried sigmoid a few times and never able to get anything decent out of it.
and
what’s the goal of the 2nd diffuse/sharpen?
Thanks
I use whatever I like
. However, I try to make bigger changes with scene referred tools first and for the “fine tuning” I also use the legacy modules. If it works, it works.
Something like sharpen demosaicing.
I’m not sure sigmoid or even filmic is needed with this image… lose details and then you will have to coax them back…
Its this…he just tweaked one slider from 25 to 27…maybe by accident…

Not an easy one to work with. I think the original lighting is problematic.
dt 4.2.1
I am a huge fan of shadow and highlights module. Just because one developer had a bee in his bonnet about the module doesn’t make it bad. I often use it in conjunction with the tone equalizer module. The shadow and highlights module adds oomph to the shadows in terms of both color and contrast enhancement. Use what ever looks good and don’t get hung up on the scene referred stance to processing.

In this case I like the square format with a blurred background, so that the strap does not stand out.
Ok, everyone else likes it bright, so I’m trying this.
