urban and mountain landscapes with deep shadows

Perhaps the title is a bit silly. I wanted to share these three photographs that I processed a bit more than my usual standards. The urban landscapes are from Rome, and I wanted to enhance the clouds and preserve the high contrasts in light:

This was taken in the Dolomites (Val di Fiemme), I wanted to boost the autumn colors (the sky was a bit flat so overall this is a forgettable shot, but it was a good experiment to try and work with multiple instances of colorbalance rgb):

EDIT I did mask the sky a bit in the mountain shot and I could have done a better job…

Thanks for sharing…

Thanks for sharing @aadm. As usual, the subjects and framing are spot on and interesting. It will attract lots of Play Raw ers. :slight_smile:

I for one was definitely attracted to play with these images!
In GIMP. I tried to stay with the theme of high contrast, while attempting to bring out detail in the darkest parts. Increases of local contrast in most “zones” of all three.

My version…

Another approach. High contrast images are often great for b&w conversion. Just b&w transform plus some minor adjustments (sharpening, local contrast, exposure).

I like this; a bit darker than my version, a bit more stern, rocks are the right color too

…and this too! sharper (I need to dig into your xmp to see what you did) and you nailed the trees in terms of color, thanks! Did you use dt 3.8?

(I’ve also enjoyed the b/w versions)

Yes, 3.8.1.

@Thomas_Do The B&Ws have character. :+1:
I would attempt it too if I had more time.
