ASIAIR outputs in AVI not SER. After research, I found the only way to process for color images in SiriL is to capture a dark AVI in addition to the light AVI and then:
Convert dark avi to fit without debayer (easy)
Make a dark master from the fits (easy; script)
Convert the light avi to SER seq, without debayer
Calibrate the seq using the dark master with debayer checked
-Then I register using an area of interest and Image Pattern Alignment. Then I stack.
That works, I get RGB. However I also get a nasty matrix when I zoom in.
Am I approaching this incorrectly? I have to imagine ZWO video capture with ASIAIR is fairly common, not at all a fringe setup. There must be a correct processing flow using Siril?
AVI is really a bad format for astrophotography. The Bayer pattern is not recorded inside the file header.
So you need to manually try with different pattern to get right debayer.
Of course all is well with my DSO fit captures and processing. I won’t want to mess that up.
I see in Preferences where to change.
1- If I leave the top two boxes checked, my good DSO fit frames will read from the header regardless of the Bayer/mosaic pattern greyed out?
2- for the avi files I should uncheck the second box and experiment RGGB etc until I get a good avi debayer?
3- Once I discover “2-“, I should keep that pattern selected but keep Bayer Information box checked EXCEPT when manually converting my avi; in that case uncheck?
4- do I need to also experiment with Debayer Interpolation setting?
Thank you!!
I’m attaching a trimmed 10 second avi.
I have also tried using PIPP to convert to SER. Maybe I’m doing that wrong though. In PIPP I selected debayer option with (ZWO supplied) RGGB pattern. Then in Siril, I converted the SER to fits files, again selecting debayer. Output has grids when I zoom in using Photoshop.

I’m sorry. I don’t really know what I did wrong, I’m only trying to supply complete information to help me use Siril to convert ASIAIR Plus avi files for stacking planetary images in Siril. I am being assisted by lock042.
Because you said Debayer, but not in the Conversion tab, I took that to mean do so in the Calibration tab. Calibration will not Debayer unless there is a calibration frame. So…
I converted dark avi to dark fits, no Debayer
I converted light avi to light SER seq, no Debayer
I made a dark master fit
I changed Preferences as per your screen shot
In Calibrate, I selected the dark master fit and the light seq
I checked Debayer
I calibrated two ways: CFA checked and unchecked (I was copying how standard pp script is coded, but did it both ways just in case)
The resultant pp_ file names reference each of the above.
Are you working with the converted files? It would be nice to crack the code and get the AVIs correctly converted. I like my hardware and software. Else, it’s laptop, cables, SharpCap etc.
PS I can share what we find on my Cloudy Nights topic, share tips for others in the same situation.
