Vertical photos failing auto-orientation (CR2 - DT 4.4.2)

Hi everyone,

I am a new DT user and, after the first installation, I noticed that Darktable is applying the orientation (auto) to every image, but the vertical (portrait) ones are still shown in landscape. The files I am importing are .CR2, shot with a Canon 70D.

I also checked the exif metadata and in the vertical picture there is a rotation tag.

Do you have any suggestion? I am attaching a screenshot to show the problem.

DT version: 4.4.2 on Windows 11 version 22H2

Thanks in advance

Hi @sierra, and welcome!

The prolem is known: Automatic Orientation - Failing on Vertical Orientation · Issue #10906 · darktable-org/darktable · GitHub

Here is a swift way for you to rectify images when needed:

Hi @Claes, thanks for the quick reply. I saw that issue, but it seems that applies to version 4.2 and HEIF files. Morover it seems that the issue is closed.

I do not see this on Windows 11, dt 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 or Linux Debian development version darktable 4.5.0+300~g04fce12a72.

I can put the camera in ‘auto rotate pictures’, take landscape and portrait frames and import to darktable. The pictures are correctly auto-rotated when imported.

I have Canon 5D mk IV with CR2 raw output.
