Very GRAINY raw exports - How to fix?
No, I’ve opened it with Eog (eye of Gnome).
That’s at least part of the problem.
Eog uses some form texture filtering which makes noisy images look much worse. Try opening it in another tool. :slightly_smiling:

@HJarausch How did you export it in RT? Using ‘Put to queue’, ‘Put to queue for fast export’ or from Editor using ‘Save (Ctrl-s)’?

That’s a great example, thanks for sharing it!

It really frustrated me because it’s impossible to demosaic no matter what algorithm; the Ricoh GR is ultrasharp and not very high pixel count, so on a sharp transition from yellow to blue, it badly violates the assumption that color stays relatively constant. Makes me want a camera with a multi-layer sensor…or a camera with like 800 megapixels that far outstrips the lens’s resolving power.

I’m using the Save button near the message item on the lower left of the middle window.
Since it’s a 20 MPixel image one can “see” Rawtherapee working.
What I have always wondered that when saving an image, all steps seem to be applied (again) as shown in the message item. And it takes quite some time whereas saving a tiff image of the same size in Gimp is much faster.
Why are all steps computed again on saving?

(I’m using the GIT version of Rawtherapee - 4.2.674)

Many thanks to all of you for helping me,
Helmut

@HJarausch
Can you please upload the pp3 file which ‘causes’ the grainy export.

@HJarausch always provide the raw file and the PP3 file along with a screenshot of the problem when asking for such kind of help. Use http://filebin.net/
See Forum - RawPedia

I might have found the source of my problems myself - it requires further testing.
I’ve noticed the preview window is not always updated when I change some rulers.
Sometimes I have to click into the preview window to force updating.
Therefore it might be that I have changed rulers (e.g. for sharpening or denoising) before exporting the file believing that the current preview window is showing the image that will be exported.
Is there any toggle to select immediate updating of the preview window?

Many thanks to all of you,
Helmut

They all update immediately.
