Wayland color management

This is a fairly major one - Ubuntu is dropping Gnome/X11 in the 25.10 release.

I don’t know whether this works across two topics, colour management (which this isn’t) and AgX.

Apparently the next version of Blender (5.0) will support HDR on Linux over Vulkan and Wayland (source).

Have they ported blender to gtk4? Because afaik current blender does not do 10 bit display output

They say “over vulkan” so it’s probably something that’s bypassing the GUI framework and going directly to the GPU for rendering just like a videogame.

Blender doesn’t use GTK.

Very interesting, thanks for the share. So Krita will be the second app that can use wayland color management properly. Still need to test Chrome though.

The patch is merged in master so Krita can now have color management under wayland.
I am so happy with this news and also with all the work that redstrate has done to give us proper graphic tablet configuration support under plasma.

I now wish color profiling and verification app get proper support that would end the ordeal

Just tested Chrome beta - wayland color management seems to work, colors outside of srgb are visible if the profile is set in kde plasma display settings.

now we just need an image viewer that is compatible with wayland color management.

How are you testing this? Is there a tool or page to verify it works

On my laptop which has a (dci) p3 screen?
The only thing I do is I set the correct icc profile in plasma display settings.

Edit: unfortunately I can’t post screenshots of this because the screenshots show the same colors, it’s not visible in the screenshot.

Sorry I didn’t understand your question. Of course you also need pics that contain colors outside of srgb.

This will put some pressure on other (open source) graphics software developers.

I had tried this page under wayland, chrome worked but firefox did not.

Here is one and the same photo, the first version in AdrobeRGB, the second in sRGB:

If you can see the difference in the reds, you color management works.
