I have only been here a couple of months or so even though I have been using Darktable on/off for several years and as an outsider I must say that I find it both entertaining and sad to enter this forum to see conflicts like the one mentioned above.
I have no idea who Aurélien Pierre is (I’m not much into people stuff) but I like his photos and have learned a bit from some of his tutorials.
Alas, then I read this:
Darktable : crashing into the wall in slow-motion
Even though he has a few valid points about the Darktable UI - I don’t use DT because of how its GUI is designed, quite frankly it’s a bit of a mess, but because of what it can do - I have seldom witnessed somebody go overboard in profanities as he does in that piece of writing. Even if I disregard all the f-words, shit and stuff, I have serious issues with people trying to make a point with far-fetched arguments like this:
Since the 1980’s, all the general-audience computer appliances have converged toward more or less unified semantics, where the escape key closes the current application …
Nope, never done that. Or if I ever did I’m too senile to remember. ![]()
But to be fair I downloaded Ansel to have a look and judge for myself. Being as I said not much a fan of the Darktable UI that would be a sensible thing to do. Unfortunately Ansel comes across very much like an unfinished product, and even if I’m not exactly a fan of Darktable’s UI, Ansel is so much worse.
In an attempt to answer the question posed in the title of this thread, I can only say that I see that whatever the problem is, it isn’t a problem of mine, and so i guess I’ll ignore it and stick with the rest of this forum having finally found it.
