Yes, and also this (link to part 2 at the bottom of the article). Unfortunately, the images seem to be gone.

Darktable can pretty much show every step (you can disable all but the absolutely necessary modules, set demosaic to pass-through, set raw black/white levels to the theoretical 0 and some-power-of-2 values).
