What is the meaning of the various shades of gray on the timeline?
Hi @sherwingws, and welcome!
Drag the mouse pointer at the “year line”, and you will understand why.

Thank you for your response. I have been playing around with the time-line for a while. I don’t see what the shades mean. Forgive me, since my stroke two years ago my analytical abilities are challenged. If you could be so kind as to answer my question, it would be greatly appreciated
I have searched yhe documentation and for descriptions on the web, to no avail.
Those bars indicate the amount of photos for a specific time.

Here you can see I have no photos from january till march in 2015. Then there are photos from april, just a few from may, again some more in june, and so on. The darker bars represent the photos of the filmroll you have currently opened in the lighttable. The more faded ones shown in your image indicate that there are photos in other filmrolls for that time.
Ah, excuse me, @sherwingws,
I missed your “shades” question.
Luckily, an apostel appeared to give you the proper reply.
Have fun!

Thank you for the clear info. Now it makes sense. A very powerful tool. Well thought out.
