I like my desktop wallpaper calm and plain.
Which incidentally is a genre I greatly enjoy photographing. This one was taken on the island of Borkum in the North Sea.

I use a tiling window manager, paperwm on my laptop and i3 on my editing machine. So I don’t see my wallpaper. On my laptop is just darkblue and on editing machine some black fishscale pattern.
For me it’s rather the opposite currently 
I have used a lot of minimalist wallpapers in the past, but not lately. My current one has been unchanged since the last time I’ve shared it here – that one album cover in the 1200p wallpaper topic.
Unchanged wallpaper for this long is a bit unusual for me, actually. I’d change it, but dunno what for

Nice topic and nice postings of y’all.
I have a photo of my wife in front of backlit golden autumn leaves. The photo is about 10 years old and I still love it (and her). Motivates me to keep the desktop clean.

When I upgrade my Linux Mint, I always copy to new / and /home file systems and upgrade the copy. The previous version remains bootable, and I change the wallpaper so I know which is which.
I like something low-key and warm. Have a pic of glowing embers: it came from the standard Linux Mint collection.
My phone wall paper has been the same almost since my first “smart phone.” It is a picture of a breaking wave, taken by a friend of mine who is a superb land/sea-scape and nature photographer with almost no technical knowledge of photography.
I use variety to switch every 30 seconds from a choice of about 80 photos, all of which I took.
Mine is from an old sound software application. I’m not even sure the software is still available.

On my laptop, I have a slide show of photos (all mine) set up with Dynamic Wallpaper Editor, which generates an XML file compatible with the Ubuntu built-in wallpaper slide show. Way less effort than hand-editing the XML. Presently set to change the image every two minutes. The images I include are a mix of ones I like and ones where I want the edits to marinate in my head for a while.
My Windows desktop just has one static image. Gotta do something about that some day.
My phone has a lock screen image and a wallpaper both taken from a set distributed many years ago by Paul Nicklen.

Up until this year I have always had a solid black or dark gradient as my wallpaper on every computer. My only decor was having an occasional Conky graphic with system info I wanted to monitor. One day I decided maybe to try something new. Here is my current one. Yes taken by me.

I used to choose a new image per season from my collection, roughly in keeping with the seasons, so a wintry photo in winter, summery photo in summer, etc.
But now I use the Windows slideshow feature to randomly choose a new image every day from a folder with my portfolio and “almost portfolio” images in it. I decided it was important to me to remind myself of and enjoy the best photos I have taken over the years, and this is a simple way to keep things fresh. This folder is somewhat dynamic in that I regularly add photos to it and delete ones I’ve decided I no longer like.
Incidentally @bastibe , the image you posted reminded me of one of mine in this folder:
It’s one of those shots that some might critique for not having a clear subject, but there’s something about its symmetry and mood that just makes me feel calm and content.

Yes, Calf is very much still available.
I use their parametric EQ module (one of them) for my hearing compensation. I used to use with JACK, but found out how to use it with pipewire in my latest Linux Mint upgrade.
So it is, and the latest version is installed on my system. There was some high-end audio processing application that became unavailable, and I was confused when I said that about Calf. I apologize.
