What makes this pop?

This is a somewhat mediocre grab shot, as I was just walking by this oil/gas tank. But I played around with it a little and what struck me about it, how with very few adjustments the stairs take on this 3D feel and especially the surface of the tank looks like you can almost touch it. Over the years, I came across some techniques to make subjects pop, but it somewhat eludes me what exactly does the trick here.

This doesn’t show up well in the small jpg below, but full-screen on my monitor, it is fairly pronounced. Hence, I added the raw file - not sure, if it’s appropriate for a play raw.

What maybe does it, is that the shot now is almost monochromatic. I haven’t opened it yet in darktable to check, but that is the impression I get.

@Thomas_Do has already done a great colour opposition edit; let’s see where we get without colours.

So, it seems like a Popanz makes it pop, as usual.

And a cheezy attempt at an OOB.

Thanks for all the interesting takes on this (I’ve since paddled back on the ‘creative’ rotation in my initial version). Looks like, it ‘pops’ in many different variations, so it’s probably not so much the processing, but more the particular subject in combination with the lighting. Still puzzles me why this particular image does this so well.
