White balance for self-luminous highlights

I’ve read a short article that investigates, and provides examples for, using D65 for light sources (self-luminous highlights) in the image, while balancing the rest of the image according to the camera (as usual). I think this is something that can be done in darktable easily, using a parametric mask on color calibration, targeting the highlights, and the inverse of that for the rest of the image. The one image I tried it on did not give very different results, but that is to be expected, as the white balance was already relatively close to daylight.
