I played with this picture for a while. I finally removed sigmoid from the pipeline, in order to maintain detail in houses (white walls, brown roofs)
Mountains in the back look ugly (they are arid at summer), I have used tone equalizer masked, but i got the even uglier.
I would like to see suggestions to deal with this sort of landscape.

Another of my eccentric approaches in GIMP!
I have tried to introduce structure and colour into the forbidding mountains and the surroundings.
I don’t see a reason to turn off sigmoid. The white buildings can be recovered using the tone equalizer module. In my edit I just concentrated on recovering the white buildings.

Used a very aged GIMP plugin called Adaptive Contrast for the main part of the effect. Had to fix the halos between the transition from horizon and sky. Also, pushed the colors to my taste. Might be a bit loud to some of your.

Looks a bit like Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Expansion (CLAHE) found elsewhere in the non-Foss world.
sorry, I can’t load the xmp of some of the images contributed.
Specifically, the AGX, DT 5.3 and the ones from dqpcoxeas and priort
They keep stuck “working”. I have tried resetting demosaic to default, as once advised in this forum.
what can I do?

dt 5.2.1 is not future compatible. You might be able to get it to work if you use a flux capacitor.
