Why are some .jpg and .tiff files not seen by RT?

I usually have no problems loading tiff and jpg files in RT. However there are some .jpg and .tiff files RT does not list when double clicking on a directory. For instance I have a tiff file coming from a scanner and RT does not see it. I converted the file to .jpg format with ImageMagick and still RT does not see the jpeg file.

I have tried renaming the file to ‘aaa.jpg’ to make sure that illegal characters in the file name might fool RT, but that had not effect. RT wont see file ‘aaa.jpg’.

I have cleared all filters.

Other picture display programs such as QQview display those same files.

Did someone else meet that problem?

Could it be, that the image has only one color channel? RT needs three.

Thanks so much. You are right, those were gray scale pictures. That makes sense.
