why do winter landscapes look blue?

Aside from the above mention reflective propertice of ice and snow, there is also a significant transmissibility through the frozen water. Each time a photon crosses a boundary between two materials, its path of travel will bend according to the wavelength and the ratio between the two materials’ magnetic permittivities. The blue wavelengths are then able to escape the hall of mirrors created by this phenonemon of dispersion and pass through. Generally when with photographing any type of light source, using a color calibration based on reflections of light will lead to a flatter color in the illuminative light-transitive ares.

Yeah, I have found that instead of using white levels in processing I use grey for shadows. Then the white doesn’t turn blue.
