Windows Services - How can I find the darktable instance in windows services

0

I accidentally screwed up my darktable configuration, so I reloaded it from scratch. To avoid losing all my recorded changes I have done too my pictures, I wrote a powershell backup script for the darktable database. I want to launch this script from the windows task scheduler whenever I launch darktable. I have found the event id which indicates in the security log that a new process has occurred which I should be able to use to automatically launch my backup script from task scheduler. I want to add code to the script to check the windows services to see if darktable is actually running and only perform the backup if it is. Anyone know how I can identify this?

By default (unless you changed the xmp settings), you images edits are stored next to the images in the xmp file. As long as you backup your images/xmp, there is no real need to do anything else.

Also, DT saves a snapshot of the database. I’ve never use it. It should be in the app data local darktable folder (I’m on the cell and I can’t check now).

What I did was accidently changed the settings for the histogram where the graphic did not display. I knew about the xml files, but I couldn’t figure out how to get my histogram graphic back. Thats why I did an “if in doubt, throw it out” to the darktable installation. As this post shows, I am just now getting into photography and editing the pictures. I do not have a lot of pictures as of yet and pretty much think what I have wasn’t worth worrying about. I know, stupid newbe. sorry for my ignorance.

I should clarify that I am backing up the complete folder that the database is in,not just the database.

You really don’t need to backup all the database folders (app data…). It is a bit of an overkill since it is easy to start over (add to library).

You do need to backup your photos/xmp. I keep my photos in a separate drive and backup locally and to the cloud.

Thank you for the reply. The one thing I did right was to use an external drive for my pictures and xml files are at. I try to never save any data to my C drive just because you never know when either the OS or drive itself might go belly up. Again, thank you for the reply.
