Not to appear more ignorant than I really am (hard to do) but I can never figure out how to get to the .dmg file for install on my iMac. I know nothing about “tar balls” and any of this git stuff. Just a long time creative guy who is try to improve his photography, and does not like Lightroom.
David, I’m also a Mac user. I’ve become accustomed to wait a couple of days for the .dmg once a new version of darktable has been released. I’m sure that we’ll see one soon, right, houz?
Once the package becomes available, it’s not any more difficult than simply double-clicking the file to install it. Cavaet: It’s easy as long as you’ve enabled “Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere” in Security and Privacy.
French-speaking people can enjoy a detailed article (much more than just translating release notes) about this version’s new feature: http://linuxfr.org/news/darktable-2-4-0
Hey, thanks for following up. I have the drivers installed normally. I tried switching to the 387 drivers from 384, which crashed my system.
After reboot, I can’t open Darktable anymore. It says “an error has occurs while trying to open the database […] the database lock file contains a pid that seems to be alive in your system: 3” After deleting the options folder, I’m back to the same issue - no OpenCL.
Googling NVidia drivers and flatpak doesn’t tell me how to install them using flatpak.
I’ll go back to Darktable 2.2 until there’s a PPA for 17.04 or I have time to switch to Linux Mint. :-/
Is the haze removal module hidden by default in 2.4.0? I’m asking because someone at another forum was interested in trying out dt mainly for this feature and they couldn’t find it without assistance. I think it’s a good idea to favourite the new, stand-out features so that the first-timers can easily get to them. Alternatively, maybe the stable versions should include a simplified and a full workspace preset in the “more modules” area? Just some random musings…
Hey, thanks for pointing me to the unstable PPA, I had only looked at the stable. Unfortunately, it does not contain a package for Ubuntu 17.04. I will have to wait until I have time to switch to Linux Mint, since 17.10 has been causing problems on my desktop PC and I don’t want to mess up my laptop with it, too.
