adjusting threshold rectangle thing

i know how to move the points left and right but cant figure how to move them vertically.
if i want to exclude the midtones i want to raise the leftmost and rightmost points and lower the middle two points to the bottom. how can i do that?

You cannot move them vertically.

would appear then that that slider is primarily to exclude shadows and highlights to varying extents
