Can I rename a filmroll? (dt 3.4.1 under Linux)

The best way to avoid this is to stick to a single procedure, if possible. Either always copy the images to the computer and then import, or import directly from the camera (I would recommend the first, as it should be much faster). In any case it’s impossible to use the ‘import from camera’ button if the camera memory is mounted, so at least you have that warning you that something is not right.

It currently is my intention to use the ‘copy to computer’ approach, especially when I’m using Linux, because RPD is so quick and capable. To that end I also purchased a reasonably good USB 3.0 card reader. The only down-side is that removing the card from my Fuji X-T30 is a bit of a fiddle - either you can’t get your fingers in enough to grip the card or, if you use the spring tension, the card is ejected at high velocity, traversing a perfect parabola, the destination end of which is inevitably in the cup of tea on my desk or securely within the dust bunnies under the desk.

I have an X-T20 rather than an X-T30, but the physical layout of the area where the card lives is similar. I also find that getting the card out is sometimes a bit fiddly. But removing the battery first makes it much easier.

This tip is pure GOLD!

I’m using darktable for about 3 years now and had settled on storing my RAWs in a directory structure as yyyy/yyyy-mm-dd - <job-code>/yyyy-mm-dd_raw only that I would have my filmrolls “yyyy-mm-dd_raw” and not just “raw”.

From the setting “number of folder levels to show in lists” I would never have guessed that what it actually means is “number of folder levels to show in film roll names”. (I confess, I haven’t read the whole manual from front to back before I started using darktable)

I don’t know whether this feature and its documentation were present at the time of the discussion or not, but I have found a much easier way of doing this in the docs.

  1. Close Darktable (just to be safe)
  2. Rename the folder (the film roll) in your file manager
  3. Open Darktable. In the lighttable collections module, the original film roll or folder name will be displayed with strikethrough formatting to emphasize that it can not be located. Right click on the film roll, and select search filmroll… Then choose the renamed directory in the file picker dialog.

Thanks for this simple solution. By the way, the link provided is now dead (404 error). I guess the same topic for version 3.8 is in this link.
