Clouds again...

" … that’s definitely the last words I spend on RAW-histograms in this category)."

I’ll take the last word then:
Here is my RawDigger histogram settings re-checked today:

Nothing wrong with them, so I was wrong to suggest that there was, especially as you have now seized on my suggestion and presented it as a fact.

Here is the raw histogram of your image:

Exactly the same as FastRawViewer, so nothing wrong with it either.

I would not describe your diatribe against RawDigger as being either respectful or friendly, quite the opposite in fact.

The suggestion that raw histograms are out of place in the Play Raw forum is quite odd, IMO.

It is odd to offer critiques in the Play Raw. The OP is not asking for people to be critical of the setting they used to take the image. The purpose of PlayRaw is for you to create a derivative from his work. I suggest you abstain of posting raw histograms and underexposed critiques unless someone asks for it in the critique category.

I concur that this is the wrong place for critiques, let’s not do that please.

As I mentioned before, please enlighten me about how to read the histogram. I do not have a copy of RawDigger, so do not have first-hand knowledge of what it might be saying that is different from what it is showing. For example, what does EV0 mean? And why did it change? A histogram without context is just a pile of sand.

I edited the histogram to the best of my ability:

But somehow it’s still just a boring monochrome diagram. Very bad histogram. No colors in it AT ALL! Who’s supposed to print that out and hang it on their wall?

So I reluctantly tried my hand at the other thing contained in the RAW file, the so-called “image”.

Nice render, I maybe would have tried to fight a little bit more on the noise in the clouds. But aside from that, very pleasing.

If you wonder about these strange stripes which comes through in the clouds of your edit. That’s not a problem with RAW Therapee, but a known problem of the EOS 760D Sensor.

I put everyone on this thread in slow mode. Hopefully to slow and eliminate the posts that have nothing to do with editing this cloud photo that was originally posted. I am sad that this mechanism has failed.

I can’t seem to get rid of the noise in the clouds entirely, but using Tone EQ instead of Retinex in the local adjustments is way better. Didn’t want to blur it too much either since the structure in the clouds is imho important for the overall mood of the image.

On a related note, I think the 24-hour-limit is actually a great thing. I was about to post an intermediate edit yesterday, but couldn’t, so I now sat down and worked it some more.

Maybe we need something like a simple forum bot that pretends to be AI, giving everyone a Barnum statement along the lines of “PlayRawBot just analyzed your edit, and it’s terrible. Based on your previous edits, PlayRawBot has determined that you can do a lot better, so get back to work and post your results tomorrow.”

On the Faroe Islands? Nope.
Maybe it was a Kiosk where you could buy milk, eggs or carrots. I don’t remember, to be honest. It’s quite a time when we were there. But it was no border nor a toll station.

My version…
