If you plan on retiring there, consider having a some place else to go, during Summer — this is actually what people do. Not because of the heat, not because of the amount of sunny days. But because the picturesque roads are jammed mostly all day long. This partly explains why so many houses have swimming pools, there

We spent our family holidays on the Cote d’azur back in the late 70s. I’ve heard it has changed a bit since then 
I like the original edit, it is hard to get good colours / saturation with such harsh light.
