From what I remember does Pascal update the lens database shipped with his lensfun builds to reflect the latest updates.
Updating lensfun to a newer version is going to cause problems as many other programs shipped with Ubuntu are using the same library and would require recompilation. So please ask the Ubuntu people to update the library.
