Next version is 4.0 but I would expect those redirects to be updated when the next one is out. You can do temporary redirects so that they aren’t cached (I forget what type). There’s no point in having a stable url if nobody ever sees it in their address bar - they will always copy-paste and the stable url will never be used. The links in the app currently point to /3.8 and, until 4.0 is out, I would expect this to redirect automatically to /stable.
I don’t expect to win this argument though.
Edit: actually it’s possible that such a redirect might not play well with the site config. I’m not sure
