Darktable M1 Mac Performance

I’m thinking about upgrading my i9 MacBook to a one with an M1 Max processor (yes, I know the M2 is the latest). Does anyone have real-world performance experience upgrading from i9 to M1 Max? My current MacBook has an i9 processor, 64gb RAM, and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M video card.

I love the battery life of the M1, but don’t want to lose any performance of the dedicated graphics card.

When I switched from my 10th gen desktop i5 with an RTX3060 to the Mac Mini M1 (no max), I ran some benchmarks.

The M1 was slightly faster for most darktable tasks, including GPU-bound ones. In general, modern darktable performance seems mostly GPU-dependent.

Here’s the post from back then, with performance numbers: performance of darktable 4.2 on macbook air m1 base model - #30 by bastibe

when using very performance hungry tasks like diffuse&sharpen the m1 max (32cores) vs i9 /5500M ratio is about 1:4
in general my m1max is about double as fast as my former i9/5500M
