Discussion: maintaining objectivity in editing vs 'emotive' editing ;-)

I’m in my sucking period right now … At least for the last 20 years! LOL :joy:

Sorry about the late reply!

Interesting. I haven’t really considered, I must confess, whether I’m following the trends or not… but I’m sure I am influenced, even if only subconsciously.

I like character too, but have recently started trying to simulate its effect… must be careful with this I can see. Come to think of it maybe it’s just a good excuse to buy more old lenses!
But all this does depend on a lot on subject matter and the reason for the photos in the first place.

Yep, yep and yep! I mean I don’t mind the overrun crackles many performance cars are tuned to do now, but I’m starting to realise that even if I could afford a fancy new car would I like it? I doubt it…
I currently drive an old Rover 75 estate, which is 20 years old, slow by modern standards, and uncool. I got it because I like British cars and I wanted something big enough to sleep in the back… those two criteria led me to it.

But I’m really starting to like it. It has character… same as the old Olympus E-400 I got cheaply recently (almost as old as the car!) and is actually very nice to drive. I was intending to sell it sooner rather than later, but am now seriously considering doing/getting done a few bits of work that need doing on it and maybe even ‘hotting it up’ a little. There’s a man who does something with the turbo… :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :face_with_peeking_eye: :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Anyway, I’m realising that character does appeal to me, whether it’s in photos or cars, or probably anything else too. Perfection? Hmm… don’t need that. Usually…

A little nonsense now and then…

In some way everybody … except me :innocent: … is influenced. I think it’s just important to realize that it is this way.

To be careful is always a good thing. But please read as well the last sentence of my post. If you really like it, do it. There is no wrong or right on things like that. It’s a hobby in the end so the most important thing is to have fun!

Good old times, when British cars were still British and not Chinese. It’s a very nice car and lightyears away from being uncool. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I own a 15 years old Elise and a 36 years old VW T3 Multivan and love both of them. Unfortunately, the older the cars get, the more expensive they get. At least if you are not that good in mechanics.

I’m really strange regarding perfection. On some things I’m absolutly fussy and on others I don’t care or even hate perfection. Maybe I’m schizophrenic :grimacing: :upside_down_face:

First, all of your edits are within reason. I’m comfortable with the images.
Second, my work-pattern is influenced by Ansel Adams’s ideas. I look for full black (or color equiv) in shadows and near-white (or color equiv) in the highlights. (The only exceptions are fog pictures and night photography; I have to handle those separately.) I have given myself latitude with color saturation, because I find that it helps evoke some of the emotion I felt while I was on location with the camera.
