…Am I a bit late to the party? 
Here are the results I obtained by using my own preset, Highlights-Shadow_Gaito,

My preset aims to “imitate” the quick and simple two sliders Lightroom approach: one slider for boosting the shadows, one for attenuating highlights, that’s all.
The results you can see here are obtained using only that preset and a little bit of local contrast.
On the chalet picture, I had to duplicate the ShadowsBoost instance of my own preset, in order to doubling the shadow recovery capability: shadows in that pictures were very dark!
