FOSS photo manager/editor for JPEG workflow

It would be interesting to see this tested by others and hear feedback. The idea sounds cool.

Actually, libjpeg-turbo(GIMP’s JPG decoder) maintainer has come up with a hack to render 8-bit JPEGs to a 12-bit colorspace. I need to do some more testing, but this should provide the same benefit as jFloaty, and it could be integrated directly into GIMP!

Any chance of this being incorporated into Darktable?

Google thinks darktable uses libjpeg-turbo as well, so signs point to yes.

I’ll bring it up to them.

Just to report back on the question that started this topic: the person who I asked this for is now shooting raw, and developing them in Darktable. I have set up a preset that is automatically applied to all photos (basically: defaults w/ sigmoid, + demosaic with capture sharpening, lens correction, mild midtone saturation enhancement with color balance rgb, bit of extra contrast with sigmoid, local contrast), and he finds it convenient.

He usually only corrects exposure, white balance, rotation, and does some cropping. Also finds the presets useful for b/w.
