There is a thread here which was prompted by that very video. Aurelien’s fork is a personal project and he says he intends the pixel pipeline to remain compatible with the main darktable project, which is still under active development (and indeed Aurelien is still contributing changes to it).
The fork is not a replacement for darktable but an alternative to it.
