GIMP is falling behind.. Where is the UX?

Since it’s quite difficult to save other formats than xfc from Gimp. I think this issue may not be so important anymore. First you have to export rather than save the image then when you close it Gimp tells you about not having saved the file because it was exported to a file format without full compatibility.

This is quite a few steps that suggest to the user that you’re doing something out of the ordinary. If you close the image disregarding the warning before checking your exported file I think that (more) that fair warning had been given at that point.

Personally I find those warnings and extra dialogs annoying because when editing output formats I usually have many to process. When doing a large “project” that benefits from xfc I usually don’t save and open very many times in a sitting. But they do, at least, very forcefully prevent mistakes.

Resorting to a series of logical fallacies to argue that I’m “wrong”—including gaslighting, misrepresenting my concerns, dismissing them outright, appealing to GIMP’s history, and insisting that I have no right to critique the software unless I contribute to its development—is both intellectually dishonest and disrespectful to both of us. We deserve a more constructive dialogue.

Let me be clear: there should be a clearly defined set of core image-editing tools that function optimally, yet I don’t see that standard being met in GIMP. This isn’t merely my personal opinion; it’s an observation based on the collective functionality of image-editing software as a whole. Resorting to personal attacks won’t change that reality.

I might not know what it is, but I know what it isn’t. Tell me in your words who the ideal demographic for this application is. Just spell it out for me, who is using it, and what should it be used for.

I feel like we have pretty much run the course here.

The issue, @Mike_Q is that you haven’t provided enough detail to make any of this actionable for someone who’d theoretically do the work.

If you were actually start drilling down into your ciriticisms to make them actionable, you would find that the level of needed detail is much harder to provide than it seems.

At any rate, this is the millionth time a lot of us have heard something along these lines, so its old, irritating, and doesn’t provide any resolution for anyone.

Should you decide that you can provide actionable feed back, do so at the link below provided by @cmyk.student

You haven’t specified what that standard is or should be, only that GIMP doesn’t meet it.

P.S. I didn’t see this thread was locked until I posted. Either way, if you want to play fair, please get specific.
