How can I get this contrasty look?

I tried to make the result look as similar as possible to the Google result.

@Popanz I like the contrast in the sky here. The clouds cast a shadow and it’s quite visible in the Google Camera JPEG.

@yasuo Thanks, I am going to study your settings as there are some interesting ideas there.

I’ve been working off @alvamatik’s settings as a starting point. The metadata settings make the sunset yellow/orange, where as having the colour management set to “camera standard” gives them a slightly pinker, almost skin tone. Anyway I came up with this:

I’m fairly happy with it overall. I’d like the sky to be a bit bluer, but I need to learn how to do that.

One quick way to tweak the blue in the sky is to use the tone eq and blend in the blue channel…lift up the far right after setting the mask…just a little…if it is too strong just use the module opacity to regulate it…this will apply some tonal blue…you can also use it to add a bit of warmth…dragging down adds blue…you can do this also with the green and red channels… I have even on occasion used three instances…one in each channel and made small tweaks to blown or near blown highlights this way…

Hello, I made the sky a bit bluer using the CTL script Hue on Luminance.
(And please, downsize the photos you upload here to something like 1800px wide).

@priort I’m not sure I follow you. Do you have a link to a tutorial or something? When I look at the Tone EQ I don’t see how I can do what you suggest.

Just enable the mask and choose the blue channel as the blend mode….if you are not familiar with masking let me know and I can explain in more detail….

Nice, there are a few ways in ART to do hue specific sat/brightness corrections so it should be pretty easy to dial in your sky color as you picture it to be…

This is all quite fascinating. The different versions are amazing.

Brings forth the obvious question:

How do you manage different “Variants” in ART?

It would be very useful to be able to toggle back and forth between versions to make certain that the processing is “headed down the right path” if you will.

You can go up and down the history stack, and save as many snapshots as you want. Snapshots don’t preserve the editing history, but maybe they are sufficient for your purposes?

The end goal would be to be able to “develop” different versions.

I’m a neophyte, but I don’t see how snapshots would help accomplish that.

Easy. Open a photo and apply the Neutral profile. Make a snapshot (Alt+S) and call it Neutral. Then apply the auto tone curve, hit Alt+S and call it AutoTC. Then activate the Black&White module > Alt+S > B&W.

Now you have three snapshots or three different versions. Toggle between them by clicking on the different snapshot names.

Close ART now. When you reopen it and load this same photo, the snapshots are still there.

Interesting.
