How to analyze a corrupt raw file?

Well actually it’s all there. Grafted the tail of the file to a header of a dummy JPEG from Gimp, and voilà:

This is a smaller (1/3rd) size of the image, I have the full size for anyone interested, and unpixellated version for the author, proof of authorship to be discussed offline.

Wow! Well done… I’m wondering, is anyone on this thread on the dpr forum? Just think the OP might like to know about it… I expect you’re already all thinking about it.

Reverse engineering and data analysis sadly isn’t something you can really do “step by step” - every scenario/situation is different.

Yes. And you need some luck. Because I was only moderately convinced that grafting the data from the CR2 in a JPEG image header would give the adequate result.
