How to Install GMIC in GIMP ???

I have downloaded the GIMP plug-in G’MIC

Inside the package I find:
Nine .dll files
One application file gmic_gimp_qt
One GMZ file gmic_film_cluts
One folder “platforms” containing five more .dll files
Two text files “READ ME” and “COPYING”

I cannot find specific instructions anywhere as to what to do with all this stuff.
A good “For Complete Dummies” explanation would be appreciated.
I already know the path to the plug-ins folder; I just don’t know what of this stuff needs be put in there.

Also, another BIG question:
I only ever enhance and restore photographs, landscapes and portraits and the like; I never mess around with animations, 3-D, video, and etc.
Considering that, is there anything in G’MIC that will benefit my endeavors or is it not for me ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Hi @BuckSkin,

From where did you obtain your g’mic?
https://gmic.eu/download.shtml

Which OS? Windows? Which gimp version? If Win and v 2.8, read Important installation note… in the link above and watch the tut video.

Oh yes, g’mic is very valuable even for non-animators &c.

Thanks !

I clicked option #3 from here:
https://gmic.eu/index.shtml

That took me here where I downloaded the first option, second choice - Zip Archive:
https://gmic.eu/download.shtml
(I see that is the same link that you posted.)

64-bit Windows 7
GIMP 2.10.6

Maybe it would have been easier to have gotten the installer, but I like to see what I am installing before I commit.

I still believe that you should …

Or use the installer.

Thanks.
I almost never found the important note and video, then I saw them listed with the 2.8 downloads and I did not think that it pertained to 2.10; maybe it does.
Did you try to watch the video ?
It may just be me, but the video is so out-of-focus and blurry that I cannot follow along.
I had that problem with another recent video, but then I have also viewed several others since that viewed fine.
I really appreciate the help.

I just watched it. I agree that it could have been a trifle sharper ;-),
but it is not so blurry that it is impossible to follow, at least not on
my monitor. Here is the link I followed:

You always have the installer as a safe way out.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED !
There is usually more than one way to skin a cat.
This is 64-bit Windows 7 and GIMP 2.10.6
I ran the installer; it insisted on putting the “gmic_gimp_qt” folder (with contents identical to the Zip package) in my AppData Roaming etc. folder; it would not accept me changing the path to the main plug-ins folder.
So, once the installer finished, I manually moved the gmic folder to where I wanted it.
I fired up GIMP and found GMIC at the bottom of the Filter menu.
I clicked on it and a GMIC dialogue window appeared.
I messed around with a few filters and everything seemed to work.

At the top of the GMIC menu, it says “531 Available Filters”; does that sound correct ?

Thanks for your help, patience, and guidance.

@BuckSkin Try updating your filters once in a while to get new filters and improvements. Note that update doesn’t always work for me.

Thanks; unless there is a way to change it, it automatically looks for updates on the first employment of a session; that must be a new feature.

Good!
Yes, 531 sounds up to date.
Enjoy it!

Hey @BuckSkin,
Re your fuzzy videos on YouTube
(I see that you have complained about blur
in another thread, too):

Check this link

hopefully you will find a remedy.

Have fun!

Although I haven’t tried it yet, it looks like this might be the solution:
http://feedback.screencast-o-matic.com/knowledgebase/articles/140421-why-is-youtube-playback-blurry-fuzzy-or-unreadab

I only have the problem with about one out of twenty; the other nineteen will play clear as a bell.
Maybe kicking up the quality will fix those that don’t.
Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

I sort of like Duck Duck Go it came as the default search in one of my browsers - Pale Moon.

The windows installer seems buggy. It worked only after I removed G’mic 2.40 manually. After that it was fine after GIMP restart. Also no need to fiddle with the preferences.

…later…

Just installed G’mic as GIMP 2.10.10 plugin on my Win10 notebook. It had no previous G’mic and the installation was perfect.
