Oh, I see.
Or, in fact, I don’t see: NoScript and Ublock Origin are doing their job
I know there are those out there who criticize Fuji for its somewhat scattergun approach and confusing product lines, but I actually appreciate all the different choices they offer. I really like that you can get more stills-focused bodies and more video-focused ones. I like that some have flippy screens and some have fully articulating screens. I like that some are retro with dials and some are PASM…
OM and Panasonic have their niches, and they do them well, but if I want a flippy screen on one of the latest OM cameras, for example, I’m out of luck.
I’m seriously tempted to consider OM for my next big purchase, but it’s this kind of thing that gives me pause. What they do, they do well, but there isn’t a lot of choice.
In case it was not clear, I was praising Fuji! I really admire their bold approach. And the market seems to like it, they cannot make enough cameras.
My point was that anyone who claims to be able to predict even the broad outlines of what camera companies will release in the next 1 year is insane overestimating their prescience
He’s an interesting one because his channel clearly states that it’s a comedy channel and not to be taken too seriously, yet he’s often making serious points. And you’ll find that he often changes his mind a few videos later anyway.
I quite like his videos, but his schtick can get a bit tired after a while, so definitely a case of “small doses”.
That makes perfect sense: being controversial and flipping back and forth is the perfect recipe to maximize viewers, and thus ad revenue.
I didn’t watch the video, but I noticed that the description has affiliate links for buying the OM-5 ii
I really miss the olden days when people held controversial or extreme opinions out of some inner conviction, as opposed to generating clickbait. In retrospect, I did not appreciate the nutcases on Usenet enough: yes, some of them may have been insane, but no one was doing it for the money because in those days you could not monetize it. (Now, get off my lawn )
But was it inner conviction? Some of those people are still in the comments sections, and I sometimes find them just being edgelords or annoyingly contrarian to get attention. But maybe you’re alluding to a different breed. I appreciate anyone that can come up with a well-reasoned argument, especially if it’s controversial. But that’s different from being a hater or a fanboy: those people are just annoying.
You make a valid point, but I find that for my taste, even someone being compelled by a mild personality disorder is infinitely preferable to someone doing it for the money.
That said, micro 4/3 just attracts controversy. Some people can’t stand the idea of a camera with 1/4 the sensor size of full frame being this darn good in practice. It’s like seeing the bicycles zip by when you are stuck in traffic with a 2 ton SUV you are still paying for.
Just enjoy what you have. I tend to only care about these things when I’m not out making photos. When I am out making photos, the camera I have at hand is good, the GRIII, the Z7ii, or the GFX. Actually, out of the three, I make the most frames with the GRIII; I’m never unhappy with its raw files.
I do have megapixel lust, that’s a different problem, sort of.
Fully agree. I think a lot of “photographers” who camp out in the comments sections are rarely out taking photos. To borrow a gaming term, I think the “meta” of photography is sometimes more interesting to a lot of people. There’s probably an inverse correlation between one’s quality of photos and amount of time spent discussing sensor sizes / brands
I’d agree lmao. When I used to spend time in other communities, a lot of the people with really strong opinions on gear, lofty aspirations about their art, and strong opinions of others’ work often seemed to be not highly skilled themselves. Maybe that is me also being a judgy asshole, I dunno.
I’d like to think of myself as a skilled photographer, and I’d also like to think I can make a nice photograph on literally any camera.
Camera conspiracies lives on drama and clickbait. I used to watch a few of his videos but it’s clear that it’s all farming clicks. He produces almost no output what so ever and just spends his time jumping from system to system to be able to keep making slop videos. It’s sad because he had a few comedic videos a few years ago
To be fair though, if you’re into longer zooms, the micro four thirds lenses can’t really be made much smaller than the FF equivalents compared to shorter focal lengths, at least if you want similar apertures. And then lots of people are happy choosing a lens like the 180-600mm or even the 500PF (which is an incredible bargain used now) to use with a camera like the Z50 II – and the 500PF provides more reach (in terms of pixels per target on 20MP APS-C) than most micro four thirds lenses.
I agree! If I wanted to get into birds or wildlife (and I was briefly tempted after a trip to Indonesia in 2024!) I’d stick with my Z50 and get a FF tele to put on it. Probably the 180-600, but there are a few to choose from.
But vacations aside, most of my shooting is 35-50mm equivalent, or macro, and in settings where small size is important. Whenever I think about switching to Nikon full frame, looking at the size of the 35mm prime I’d be using instead of my crop 24mm is enough to dissuade me.
And price. I was on a real kick to go full frame for a while, but thankfully I think I’m over it. I would never rule it out completely, but I’m much more interested in portability and price these days, and full frame will rarely win on those considerations.
But the size differences between the various sensor sizes are becoming less and less (in terms of camera bodies), so maybe one day, a full-frame will make sense for me. I wouldn’t pay a lot extra just to get that bigger sensor though.
Yep, don’t worry, I didn’t take your comment as any implied criticism at all. I was just pointing out that some people criticize Fuji for the very reasons you and I like them. I think it’s a bit strange that people are criticizing them for taking bold decisions and innovating. I can understand price concerns on their latest offerings, but even that can’t be blamed squarely on Fuji. Some people seem to have forgotten a little issue called tariffs.
I’m also surprised this is allowed in Europe but I’ve seen it a lot recently.
Quite so - the difference in size/weight between my Lumix DMC-G1 and my Lumix DC-G9, both m/4/3, is quite noticeable.
