My Health Journey

Good luck. At least it sounds like treatment will improve your issues so hopefully sooner rather than later.

All the best, Mart.

Sounds like there is a little less uncertainty now, and a possible road to improvement. Hope this leads to a solution.

Good luck, Mart! Hopefully the mystery has been solved and the surgery addresses the issues for you. Then more important things can get on your nerves.

Good that you have a plan; micro-distectomy gave instant vast improvement for me; I pray that it does for you too.
Please keep us posted as to a surgery date.

Same for my wife she had two a couple of years apart…should have done it sooner…lots of pain and suffering would have been avoided…good luck…brighter days ahead

Thanks, everyone, for the encouraging words. I hope my experience will be equally as favourable.

Any idea when you will get the surgery?? Are the wait times quite long??

Sometime within the next three months, I was told.

If it fits your style maybe reach out and tell them, you would be up for a cancellation list spot…you might get in a bit sooner that way, but it can come on short notice…

Had a call from the hospital, and I have my pre-clerking appointment tomorrow over the phone. As I understand it, this should mean I have passed all my pre-op checks and my surgery is shortly up and coming.

As soon as I get a confirmed date, I will post it here.

Needless to say, I hope everything goes smoothly. I very much hope I’ll be able to get up and about to get the camera out for the first time in way too long and get a few shots up on here - and, hopefully, not miss out on getting some shots of the local summer festivities this year.

Good luck with the surgery @martbetz!

Despite me having herniated discs in my neck which contribute to my neurological issues (especially clumsy hands / poor gait at times) I ended up getting lumbered with a “Functional Neurological Disorder” Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) – A Patient's Guide to FND diagnosis, which magically both acts as a “diagnosis” which “explains everything”, but also simultaneously “offers no further treatment” apart from looking at a website about the condition. :worried: Oh, and everything after getting such a diagnosis will be blamed on it, even a broken leg with a bone sticking out “oh, it’s only a functional broken leg with a bone sticking out, go away and meditate or read a book or something to take your mind off it and that will fix it.”

You got this…

All the best.

  1. Fortify yourself as much as you can. Sleep, exercise and eat well. Avoid foods and cooking methods that cause inflammation.
  2. Bring with you your medical file. They should have it, but sometimes they do not, do not have access or for some other reason.
  3. Having a day before surgery helps with the prep work. Will you be given a day or so post-surgery? Often, hospitals just boot people out right after…

Thanks, @afre

Yes, it should be three to four days in total - in Wednesday, surgery on Thursday, out late Friday/early Saturday. Obviously, that’s assuming all goes to plan.
