Does anyone know of a good Android .gpx app? Need to be able to track a day of shooting and then import my .gpx file into darktable. I see GPSLogger is no longer in the Google Play store.
Don’t know about a standalone app that can do this, but OsmAnd can. You might already be using a map/navigation app, but this is a good opensource alternative for google maps (if that is what it is called): https://osmand.net/
GPX logging is one of the many (build in) plugins.
The important part is: Get Osmand from F-Droid not the from the Google Play Store! This way you get the proper version!
I use osmand. Its a bit heavy when all you need is to log a track but it does the job.
Also osmand, its good!
Drove where there was no cellphone reception last Sunday, and the offline maps were a champion!
I use Geo Tracker. Never failed me this far. If the raw files have the ability to store GPS data I use
$ exiftool -geotag "*gpx" *CR2
I use GeoLog, it’s quite old and simple, but just do the work without impact in the resources, also is open software.
If I forget to open it, my backup is https://www.google.com/maps/timeline, you can select a day and then download it as a KML file and the convert it to GPX, It’s a little scary, isn’t it?, and also not a good advice.
Can darktable add the GPS data to the RAW’s EXIF?
Yes.
I use GPS Logger: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=de&id=eu.basicairdata.graziano.gpslogger for this.
There is a bunch of opensource GPS tracking applications on f-droid:
And now some advertising for all darktable and geotagging friends:
I wrote some Lua scripts for darktable to improve the handling of geotagged images. You can find them as usual here:
And I wrote two blog entries how to use them:
That’s all a little bit dated so feel free to ask questions if you have some.
There is even an open ticket from @wpferguson to improve the scripts, perhaps someone is interestet to help him:
