I was playing with a semi-antique, manual lens this morning (on an X-T1). This result was not what I expected:

The letters are supposed to be grey – and I have a faint recollection of having read something about this phenomenon: “when you get close to the max resolution of the lens…” &c.

I know how to fix the shot (by re-shooting it a little closer/further away – but it would have been interesting to be able to fix it in software. g’mic’s two moire filters made no difference.
Any more ideas?

Would you consider developing the image with a different algorithm?
I know you are limited to Fuji compatible OSS algorithms, but still you can find an alternative

I suggest G’MIC → smooth [bilateral] on the chroma only, properly masked to operate only on the affected area:
