Has anybody suggestions how to handle this portrait of the old lady?
The starting point is the attached tif file. My solotion with Rawtherapee 5.8 can be found in the jpg-attachment. Perhaps a b/w conversion might be the better approach?
I have attempted to produce a slightly more flattering portrait that perhaps the lady herself would prefer. However, I am not happy with the result - I may have another try! All done in GIMP.
I thought that the green sofa is distracting and so is the bright background. Therefore, I used the great LAB tab in RawTherapee to reduce the colour of the sofa and make the white curtain a bit less bright. Then used the L curve to accentuate the face and darken the dress. That is all. So just used one LAB tab. Oh, yes I also straightened the sofa and added a soft vignette and a bit of haze removal.
Hope you like this. 20200405_Oma_Elfi_2265-1.jpg.out.pp3 (12.8 KB)
Very nice portrait @FWinegrower, you have really caught her alertness and sparkle in the eye!
PS: I did not crop the photo as her face being a small percentage of the photo with large featureless background seem to accentuate her frailness and hence the fighting spirit of positively facing old age.
5 Minutes in Photoshop trying to create a version that you could also show to her.
Removing some blemishes, sharpening hair and eyes and lighten eyes and teeth a bit.
Late to the party…
Tried first time to use darktable 3.2 retouch module on this one. Some work on the background (bad masking, artefacts). I did not like the light reflex in the left pupil (from glasses), used retouch to get rid of the bright spot. Maybe overdone?
