Opened fine in GIMP 2.10.34 and also XnView MP under Win 7 PC.
Not that I am any great lover of the format.

I seem to be a great lover of this statement!
Heh, turns out I was wrong - lide265 and libheif-plugin-libde265 are missing from the AppImage for some reason (libheif is not sufficient). @Pascal_Obry
Don’t know anything about Flatpaks, sorry.
Btw, you’ll need to be on 24.10 and later for the OBS package to work. That goes for iPhone HEICs - your Samsung ones might work w/ the 24.04 OBS package (check that libheif-plugin-libde265 is installed)…
Thanks @kmilos, have been out for couple of days, will check and report back. Regards, Jetze
While fixing the appimage also include the plugins and libraries to enable the AVIF support in libheif.
libaom is explicitly enabled, so AVIF support in libheif should work. But I haven’t tested that specifically, I only tested on the heic file from this thread. It would be nice if someone confirmed that everything works now.
Installed the pacman repo to my Tumbleweed installation and caused irrepairable damage (for my skill set) due to conflicts with the GPU driver versions. Had to make a fresh install … I guess I have to be more careful with what I install.
nobody said you should blindly switch everything to packman. you can disable packman again. call zypper dup and it should migrate everything back to the distro packages, that will hopefully repair it.
I think I tried to disable stuff and downgrade drivers. In the end everything was so twisted the only way out (for me) was a fresh install.
Like many things also this is a learning experience. It is good to know that one should stick to the “official” stuff when you are not an expert.
